It’s important to know the potential risks before a tummy tuck procedure. These include:
- Swelling
A normal postoperative response where the abdomen feels puffy or tight during healing.
- Bleeding
Bleeding can occur during or after surgery, usually controlled with standard surgical techniques.
- Wound infection
An infection in the surgical area that may require antibiotics or additional care.
- Wound dehiscence (separation of the incision)
When part of the incision reopens, requiring wound care and monitoring.
- Scarring
All surgery leaves scars; these typically fade over time but remain permanent.
- Asymmetry
A difference in appearance between the two sides of the abdomen.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary embolism (PE)
Blood clots in the legs (DVT) that can travel to the lungs (PE), a rare but serious complication.
These risks are uncommon and in general, patients achieve excellent results.
Mr Hyder Ridha will discuss these with you in detail before you make any decision to proceed.
