Droopy or deflated breasts, also known as breast ptosis, is a natural consequence of age. As we get older, we lose collagen in our skin and the supportive tissues of the breasts lose their elasticity and firmness. The ligaments that hold the breast up weaken and consequently, the breasts sit lower on the chest. This gives the sagging appearance.

Common Causes
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can also contribute to a sagging look. As well as the loss of volume in the upper breasts and the sagging appearance on the chest, you may also notice that the breasts appear longer and flatter. Some people also find a skin rash or irritation under the breasts in the fold.

What to do about droopy or deflated breasts?
Even though these changes to your breasts are natural, if you find that they are affecting your self-esteem or that they are developing irritation in the fold, then you may wish to change the appearance of your droopy or deflated breasts. Your options include a breast lift, also known as a mastopexy. This can be combined with an implant to enhance the volume or an internal mesh bra to provide further support. Speaking to an experienced consultant such as Mr Ridha can be helpful in understanding what a procedure could do for you and the results that might be possible.

I’ve already been assessed for my droopy & deflated breasts
If you’ve already discussed your different sized breasts with a cosmetic surgery consultant, you may have filled in a breast assessment form from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. See Example.
If you have previously completed an assessment form for your condition, please do bring a copy to your initial consultation.
