Hybrid Breast Augmentation
Hybrid breast augmentation is a surgery procedure that combines breast implants for volume and shape with a fat transfer for a fuller, more natural shape.
If you are considering a breast augmentation, a hybrid breast augmentation, also known as a composite breast augmentation, may be a great option for you. This type of procedure is a combination of both breast implants and fat transfer, which means you can get the best of both worlds when it comes to achieving your desired results.
At HR Plastic Surgery in London and Hertfordshire, we offer several breast augmentation techniques. Our lead surgeon Mr Ridha has helped many women achieve their desired results with hybrid breast augmentation.
Hybrid breast augmentation uses both a breast implant and fat grafting to enhance the breast.

What is a Hybrid Breast Augmentation
Hybrid breast augmentation combines fat transfer with breast implants to achieve a fuller and more natural appearance. This approach involves placing an implant for foundational volume and then layering purified fat around it for a smoother, more natural contour. This method offers enhanced shape and symmetry with lasting, natural-looking results.
Reasons to choose
If you are looking for a natural appearing and feeling breast augmentation, then a hybrid breast augmentation is the procedure to select.
Benefits of Hybird Breast Enlargement
- Customised approach
A hybrid breast augmentation allows a more personalised approach than traditional implants, which come in predetermined sizes and shapes.
It can correct minor volume asymmetries between the breasts and can enhance specific areas such as the cleavage without placing the implant more medially or disrupting breast support structures. - Natural look and feel
Combining fat transfer with implants can create a more natural look and feel.
The final appearance can be customised and may be more aesthetically pleasing than using implants alone. - Reduced risk of complications
Hybrid breast augmentation may reduce certain risks associated with traditional augmentation, such as capsular contracture, as the transferred fat contains stem cells. - Proportioned augmentation
Combining fat grafting with implants can achieve a more balanced and proportionate volume increase.
Smaller implants can be used, placing less weight on the breast tissue and maintaining a more natural soft tissue-to-implant ratio. - Implant masking
In slimmer patients, hybrid augmentation helps reduce the risk of visible implant edges or rippling.
A smaller implant can be used, and the added fat increases soft tissue coverage to help mask the implant.
Risks Hybrid Breast Augmentation
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with a hybrid breast augmentation. These include:
- Bleeding
Bleeding can occur during or after surgery and may require monitoring or additional care. - Infection
A possible infection in the surgical area that may need antibiotics or wound care. - Pain
Some discomfort or soreness is expected as part of the normal healing process. - Asymmetry
A difference in size, shape, or symmetry between the breasts after healing. - Changes in nipple sensation
Temporary or sometimes longer-lasting alterations in nipple or breast sensation. - Scarring
All surgery leaves scars; these typically fade but remain permanent. - Poor fat graft take
Some of the transferred fat may not survive and can be naturally reabsorbed by the body. - Implant-related complications
Possible issues related to the implant itself, such as movement, hardness or changes over time.
Who is a good candidate?
Hybrid breast augmentation surgery is a personal decision. If you’d like a more natural look and feel than what traditional breast implants alone offer, then you may decide it’s for you. A good candidate for this procedure should:
Be in good health
You are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight.
Have fully developed breasts
It’s recommended that patients be at least 18 years old.
Not be too thin
You need to have sufficient fat deposits in areas like the abdomen, thighs, or flanks to be used for fat transfer.
Be a non-smoker
Smoking increases the risks of the procedure and has adverse effects on the overall outcome.

How is a Hybrid Augmentation Performed?
- Implant insertion
The implant is inserted through a small incision in the breast inframammary crease. - Fat harvesting
Fat cells are harvested using a gentle liposuction technique from another area of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs. - Fat transfer
The harvested fat is injected into the breasts using a fine cannula to add volume and provide additional soft tissue cover over the implant.
A hybrid breast enlargement procedure involves combining these two surgical techniques – implant insertion and fat transfer- to achieve the desired result.
