What is Breast Augmentation?

Often referred to as a boob job or breast enlargement, breast augmentation enhances naturally small breasts or rejuvenates breasts that have lost volume post-pregnancy, breastfeeding and/or weight loss. Implants are used to enhance the size and shape of the breast.

Understanding the breast augmentation process can help you feel more confident and prepared for your journey. The procedure is carefully planned to achieve natural, beautiful results while ensuring your safety and comfort.

From your initial consultation to recovery, each step is designed to provide a smooth experience. Below, we outline what to expect during the process, including consultation, surgery, and post-operative care.

Consultation

A pre-surgery consultation with our plastic surgeon, Mr Hyder Ridha, is essential as it is here where your goals are assessed and the required implant size and type are determined. All potential risks are discussed. We’ll provide pre-operative instructions, including lifestyle and dietary modifications, to best prepare you for surgery.

Procedure

The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. Breast implants are placed either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or partly under the muscle (dual plane) through a discrete small incision in the breast fold (inframammary fold). The resultant scar is hidden in the breast crease.

Recovery

You will likely have some swelling after surgery, which is normal and usually resolves over the course of several weeks. Some numbness in the breasts may also be expected, but improves over time.

Most people feel well enough to return to work one week after surgery.

Full recovery takes about six weeks and you should avoid exercise, strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects during this time. A support garment is provided to be worn day and night for this period.
