Misshapen breasts can occur following pregnancy and breast feeding or other hormonal changes. It can also be caused by a developmental abnormality of the breast. This could affect both breasts or just one side, causing asymmetry.
Common Causes
Misshapen breasts can be due to an abnormality in breast development, the most common of which is known as tuberous breasts, where the breasts may have a more triangular shape, tightness and lack of volume in the inferior pole as well as large elongated pointing down nipples.
Other causes of misshapen breasts include hormonal changes as occurs during pregnancy and breast feeding.
Finally breast cancer surgery can result in abnormalities in the shape of the breast.
What can I do about misshapen breasts?
Misshapen breasts don’t actually need medical treatment. But if you are not happy with the appearance of your breasts and it’s affecting your self-esteem or body image, you may seek options to improve the shape.
It may be possible to add volume to your breasts by redistributing the existing tissue, moving fat from another part of your body to your breast, use implants to enhance the volume and shape, or use combination of these techniques.
