What is a Mummy Makeover?
The combined effects of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding can have a significant impact on the body. Every woman is affected differently and in some instances, it can be difficult to regain a pre-pregnancy body. This is the reason more women are opting for Mummy Makeovers to regain their confidence and address those post-pregnancy changes.
Mr Hyder Ridha has the expertise and experience needed to perform successful Mummy Makeover procedures and is based in London and Hertfordshire.
A Mummy Makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures designed to restore the body to its original contours and appearance prior to pregnancy. The procedures typically involved are:
- Breast reduction
- Breast lift
- Breast augmentation
- Tummy tuck
- Liposuction
It is important to note that some women choose to have all of the procedures, and others choose a combination of a few that is right for them. All of the options will be discussed at the initial consultation.

at HR Plastic Surgery?
If you decide to have your Mummy Makeover surgery with us at HR Plastic Surgery, this is what you can expect:
Consultation
Your first consultation is a crucial part of your journey and we make it a priority that you feel at ease throughout. Carried out by Mr Ridha personally, he will take time to listen carefully to understand your goals, before examining you in the presence of a chaperone.
He will then discuss the suitable treatment options available, including the risks and benefits, recovery times and expected outcomes. Mr Ridha is happy for you to attend with a family member or friend should you feel it necessary or for additional support.
Procedure
As a Mummy Makeover consists of a combination of procedures but all require a general anaesthetic and typically involve a 1 to 2-night stay in the hospital. The total amount of time needed to carry out your surgery will depend on the specific procedures you have chosen. The full details of your procedures will be explained to you at your initial consultation.
Recovery
Recovery time slightly varies depending on which procedures you have. Most patients are considered fully recovered after 3 to 4 months but final results can take from 6 to 12 months as by this time all swelling will have resolved and the tissue settled completely.
It is important to follow the advice of your surgeon’s postoperative guidelines to ensure you recover as quickly as possible.

FAQs
Below you can find the questions we get most frequently asked about our Mummy makeover procedure:
While a Mummy Makeover is designed to help improve your post-pregnancy figure by removing excess skin and stubborn fat, it’s not designed to be a weight loss procedure. Only a small amount of fat and tissue is removed.
As with most body sculpting procedures, the results can last for a number of years or even be permanent. However, in order to maximise the results, you will need to ensure that you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle in general.
After about 6 months the scars typically begin to fade but it can take up to 2 years for them to significantly improve in appearance.
No, you do not need a GP referral to have a Mummy Makeover. A referral from your GP is helpful, as they can provide your full medical history but it’s not essential and you book a consultation without one.
Yes, it is considered to be major surgery as it includes multiple procedures during one operation and requires a significant amount of recovery time.
In the first few days after any surgical procedure, you should focus on resting as it’s a crucial part of the healing process. It’s imperative that you listen to your body and be patient but short walks around the house are essential for healthy circulation and minimising the risk of postoperative complications.
As pregnancy and childbirth put a lot of stress on your body, it’s not safe to have surgery too soon after. We recommend that you wait at least 3 to 6 months after finishing breastfeeding to allow the body to return to its new natural position.
The location of the surgical scars will depend on which procedures you had. However, we always aim to make the incisions along the natural folds of your skin, to hide any scarring as much as possible.
A full mummy makeover includes a tummy tuck surgery with muscle repair, breast surgery, genital surgery and body contouring.
Yes, you can conceive again after Mummy Makeover surgery but it’s important to note that future childbirth might affect the results of the surgery.
Mummy Makeover surgery is carried out using general anaesthesia so you won’t feel any pain. You may feel a little discomfort after the surgery but the pain and swelling will subside within a few days of taking the medication given to you post-surgery.
We highly recommend that you don’t smoke or drink alcohol for at least 2 weeks after the surgery as they impact the healing process.
Compression garments should be worn for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery and no, you must wear them even when you’re sleeping.
